Three leading dinghy repairers sponsor the buddy prize at the GUL RS200 NationalsThree of Britains leading dinghy repairers are sponsoring the buddy team prize at the GUL RS200 Nationals which start at Looe SC this coming Sunday Aug 16th. The buddy system links a boat from the silver division and a boat from the bronze division with a leading sailor in the gold division so that the less experienced are given friendly support and help from a top sailor in the fleet. The winning team is the one whos silver and bronze buddies improve the most over the week. Dirty Hands run by Phil Scott based in Birmingham Synthesize Yachts and Design run by Jamie Stewart based in Romsey and West Country Boat Repairs run by Pete Vincent based near Bristol will each do a winter overhaul on one of the boats in the winning buddy team. Foils will be re finished gel dings sorted hull polished leaks traced all ropes and fittings checked out; everything the boat needs. This is a great prize which will help give even more emphasis to the buddy teams this year we are very grateful to the three businesses concerned and No.8221; commented RS200 Chairman Nick Charles. To help make sure the buddy teams meet early on during the week and get to know each other there is a new feature at this years RS200 Nationals. Directly after the briefing on Saturday evening there will be a special short Looe quiz; the winning buddy team will each receive half their entry fee back. The RS200 GUL Nationals entry is now closed with 130 boats entered hitting the limit of space Looe has on shore. Buddy team combinations are now on the Nationals website through events menu. To contact Phil Scott at Dirty Hands ring 07973720732; Synthesize Yachts and Design ring 01794 519990; West Country Boat Repairs ring 07813 899043 RS200s: Forgotten anything for the Nationals? As we count down the days to a week of wind and glorious sunshine (we hope) in Looe just before you sit back relax and think smugly that you already have everything sorted- there may be one thing you have forgotten and No.8230;. and No.8230;. the Monday night fancy dress! Hopefully you have all been avid readers of the telegraph in the recent months as this years theme is MPS EXPENSES. So as well as remembering to pack the sails and other such frivolities make sure you save some space for the costume (quite a bit of space if you happen to have a penchant for duck houses). Get your thinking caps on now- with still enough time to dig a moat before the Nationals begin there are no excuses! Current 200 Circuit Standings David and Jane Hivey are currently topping the overall RS200 circuit leader board after a convincing win at the last event in Largs with James Boyce/ Sam Tozer second and Pete Vincent/ Tessa Nichols in third. In fourth place overall and also leading the Silver fleet is John Teague/ Lynn Billowes. Paul and Pat Teague are keeping it in the family and are following closely behind. Matt and Ellie Sheahan are ahead of Wes and Jo Kangurs in the Bronze fleet. However it isnt over yet- there is lots still left to play for with two more circuit events remaining. First on the agenda is st1:placest1:placenameHayling/st1:placename st1:placetypeIsland/st1:placetype/st1:place this weekend where quite a few boats will be able to boost their results and shrug off a DNC as a discard. After the fun and games of st1:placeCarnac/st1:place and the Nationals over the summer the RS200s head to Shoreham for the final event in September so there is still time for the results to be shaken up. Hopefully see you all there! Gul RS200 Youth Champs ReportGul RS Youth Championships 18 RS 200s turned up at Netley sailing Club on Friday morning for the 3 day Under 22 youth championships. 2 races were sailed in an increasing breeze a fresh 18 knots saw some of the lighter crews struggling to stay upright. Itchenor members George Yeoman and Georgie Akin- Smith gave us a taste of things to come with 2 bullets leaving the rest of the fleet in their wake. Overnight Itchenor boats occupied the top 3 slots with Ex 420 sailor Andy Shaw crewed by Archie Law in 2nd place and Rob Struckett who has returned from Yale College for a few weeks 200 sailing crewed by Hattie Marsden in 3rd place. Behind them 29er youth world champions Frances Peters sailing with Georgie Andrew and Ed Fitzgerald crewed by Katie jones were joint on points. Saturday brought more wind and a lot of rain. More familiar faces today as Sam Littlejohn and Nicola Groves arrived to give the Itchenor sailors a run for their money. 3 races were sailed round a short course so the sailors boat handling was really put to the test in the 18 knot breeze. George Yeoman and Sam Littlejohn battled it out through the first race it was a race of 2 boats as they left the rest of the fleet behind them. George followed his trend by taking a third bullet and Sam in 2nd. Sam sailed consistently and made 2nd his worst result. Andy Shaw took 3 3rds which pulled him up to 2nd overnight behind George. Sunday was the windiest yet and with storms forecast for the afternoon the race committee were keen to get racing underway. The 2nd and 3rd race was survival sailing for most of the fleet with lots of capsizes on the gybes and at the leeward mark the fleet was quickly spaced out. Josh Flack Crewed by Tom Brophy from Parkstone won the first race closely followed by George. Frances and Georgie from HISC took 3rd. Sam had his worst result finishing 4th before ending the day with 2 more bullets. In the 2nd race Frances and Georgie chased Sam round the track finishing 2nd just managing to hold off George. In the final race Sam did a horizon job with Rob Struckett in 2nd and Josh flack finishing 3rd. It was a convincing win overall by George Yeoman who won with a race to spare with Sam Littlejohn taking 2nd place having not sailed on the first day. Andy Shaw discarded his final 2 results to finish 3rd overall. The full results are on the RS200 class webpages. Under 22?
