Committee Changes

After a year in the driving seat as Class Chairman, Alan Olive, better know to all of us as Spod, has stepped down, along with his right hand woman, Jane. While Spod still remains on the committee as our coaching rep, Ian Martin has taken up the reins as Chairman, along with Ben Schooling as his Vice. The 800 class is extremely grateful to Spod and Jane for all their efforts and hope to continue their hard work.

A word from Ian Martin, Class Chairman

Dear All,

Really looking forward to the challenge as your class chairman for 2007. I’m your First point of contact for all current and wanna-be RS800 sailors. We have a really strong committee working on all areas from events to socials throughout the year and I intend to ensure that all our targets are met and that the 2007 circuit is as enjoyable and as competitive as possible. I’m also the main liaison with the RS Executive Committee and look forward to planning future events with their support. We have a great calendar to look forward to this year so look forward to seeing you all out on the water.

Ian

A word from Ben, the RS800 Class Association Vice Chairman

Hi Everyone, I hope to support Ian in his role as Chairman in promoting the fleet and to act as ‘the face of the fleet’ at all the events. I also intend to support the RS800 committee in the allocation and delegation of tasks and hope to continue the success of Spod and Jane in organising and co-ordinating the 2007 Events - especially the Nationals! I hope to act as a friendly point of contact to fleet newcomers and will be happy to help with all technical/events-related questions. Spod will still be actively involved in the training/Coaching side of things so I hope to be able to help with this and encourage all newcomers onto the circuit.

Ben

2007 Calendar

With the new year just around the corner we’re pleased to confirm the 2007 sailing calendar!

The RS 800 Fat Face Racing circuit continues to grow and 9 events have been scheduled for the 2007 season. Due to kick off early in March there are events almost every other weekend until the end of July. All bases have been covered and we’re off to old favourites such as Stokes bay and Hayling Island, plus some new and exciting locations such as Beer, home of the international 14, on the South Coast and Northampton Sailing Club in the midlands.

The Fat Face Eurocup is also heading for a new location and this time it’s Travemunde in Northern Germany. As part of the infamous Travemunde Woche which attracts hundreds of boats from different classes, good sailing and great parties are guaranteed. There’s also been chat that several top European Sailors might be borrowing boats to take part in the event making it a truly international occasion!

The GUL Nationals are heading to one of the friendliest sailing clubs in the UK – Eastbourne Sovereign Sailing Club. Reverting back to the traditional 5 day format the event promises some great sailing while only using up three of those precious days of annual leave! As usual there will be a full social programme, more details to follow as we near the summer months.

A word from Fat Face…

Fat Face is really excited about being involved in the RS Racing Circuit and RS Eurocup again for 2007. In particular we are extremely pleased to be getting more involved with the RS800 fleet through our sponsorship of Sarah Marriottt and Justin Deal for next year. As ambassadors for Fat Face, Sarah and Justin will relay to us any feedback or comments you have on Fat Face’s involvement with the class, so speak up and let us know what you think! Also, look out for the questionnaire in the RS Christmas Newsletter for your chance to win a limited edition Fat Face drybag!

In the meantime, we hope that you all have a fantastic Christmas and look forward to seeing you on the water next year!

2007 winter training

Datchet Water Sailing Club has given the 800 fleet a not-to-be-missed opportunity for winter training this year!

Their Annual Winter Warm-up event is to be held during the weekends of the 10-11th and 17-18th February 2007. 2 Races per day and if we can get over ten regular boats then they’ll give us our own start.

Datchet are also hosting the GUL RS800 Winter Championships the weekend after on the 24th-25th February so they’re making all 800 sailors an exclusive offer that no one can afford to refuse…..

Boats intending to do the RS800 winters get a special offer on the price of the winter warm-up, both events for just £50 which includes boat parking for the period. On top of that the dinghy store are offering all 800 sailors 10% discount at the shop on those weekends, a perfect excuse to do some pre-season bumbling!

For more information please contact Mike Rogers, mike@dinghystore.co.uk
